Privacy Policy
BuddySay: No More Heartbreak ("BuddySay," "we," "us," or "our") is an AI-powered emotional recovery companion that helps users reflect through private voice journaling and guided AI feedback. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we collect it, how we use it, and when it is shared with service providers, including third-party AI services.
Information We Collect
Journal and reflection content: voice journal recordings, audio-derived transcripts, written journal text, companion chat messages, prompts, session mode, coping goals, companion style, and saved reflections.
Emotional check-in information: mood selections, what you are going through, tags, themes, progress entries, journal dates, and other reflection choices you enter in the app.
Account and support information: email address, account identifiers, subscription status, purchase entitlement information, and support messages if account, subscription, or support features are used.
Technical and diagnostic information: device type, operating system, app version, crash logs, diagnostics, approximate region, app interactions, and usage events that help us maintain, secure, and improve BuddySay.
How We Collect Information
We collect information directly from you when you speak, type, choose a mood, select a support mode, save a journal entry, chat with the companion, contact support, or manage an account or subscription. We also collect technical information automatically from your device and app activity for security, diagnostics, and reliability.
How We Use Information
We use information to provide BuddySay, transcribe or process journal sessions, generate AI reflections and coping prompts, show emotional progress, save journal history if enabled, personalize companion responses, provide subscription access, respond to support requests, improve reliability, detect abuse, protect safety, and comply with legal obligations.
Third-Party AI Processing and Permission
BuddySay uses a third-party AI service provider, OpenAI, L.L.C. ("OpenAI"), to generate reflections, emotional insights, patterns, summaries, prompts, and companion responses. Before personal journal content is sent to OpenAI, the app explains what will be sent, identifies OpenAI as the recipient, and asks for your permission.
The information sent to OpenAI may include your voice recording or transcript, written journal text, companion chat messages, selected mood, support category, companion style, session mode, prompts, and recent context needed to generate a relevant response. We do not intentionally send your Apple payment information to OpenAI. We do not intentionally send your email address to OpenAI unless you include it inside your journal, transcript, prompt, or chat content.
OpenAI processes this information to return AI-generated text or other app responses to BuddySay. We require third-party service providers that process personal information for BuddySay to protect that information with privacy and security protections that are the same or substantially equivalent to the protections described in this Privacy Policy.
Voice Journals and Transcripts
When you use voice features, BuddySay may record audio and convert it into text so the app can summarize what you said, identify themes, and generate supportive reflections. Voice recordings and transcripts may include sensitive personal information if you choose to share it. You should avoid sharing information you do not want processed by BuddySay or its service providers.
Sharing Information
We may share information with service providers that help us operate BuddySay, including AI processing providers, transcription providers, cloud hosting providers, analytics and diagnostics providers, customer support tools, authentication providers, and subscription or purchase entitlement providers. These providers may access information only as needed to provide services to us or as required by law.
We may also disclose information if required to comply with law, protect rights and safety, investigate misuse, enforce our terms, or complete a business transfer such as a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of assets. We do not sell personal voice journal content.
Subscriptions and Apple
If you purchase an auto-renewable subscription through Apple, Apple processes payment and billing information under Apple's own terms and privacy policy. BuddySay may receive subscription status, product identifier, transaction status, renewal status, and related entitlement information so we can unlock paid features and provide support.
Data Retention
We keep information for as long as needed to provide BuddySay, maintain your journal history if enabled, operate subscriptions, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, enforce agreements, and protect security. If deletion controls are available in the app, you may delete certain journal content directly. You may also contact us to request deletion, subject to legal and operational limits.
Your Choices and Controls
You can manage microphone access through your device settings. You can choose whether to speak, type, save a journal entry, or use AI-powered reflection features. When the app asks for permission before sending journal content to OpenAI, you may decline, but AI reflection features may not work without that processing. You may stop using AI-powered features to withdraw that permission for future AI processing. If the app supports accounts, you may request access, correction, export, or deletion of personal information by contacting us.
Security
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards designed to protect information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Not a Therapy or Crisis Service
BuddySay is not therapy, medical care, or a crisis service. The app does not diagnose, treat, or replace professional mental health support. If you may harm yourself or others, or if you need urgent help, contact local emergency services or a qualified crisis hotline immediately.
Children's Privacy
BuddySay is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child provided personal information, contact us so we can take appropriate action.
International Users
Your information may be processed in countries other than where you live. These countries may have data protection laws that differ from your jurisdiction.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The updated version will be posted with a new effective date. Continued use of BuddySay after an update means the revised policy applies.
